We had a customer bring in 182 grams of platinum in the form of crucibles (metal dishes) from an old laboratory. Larger amounts of platinum are not something we are use to, so we magnet checked it and acid tested it against various other samples like nickel and steel and the crucibles were indeed platinum and we ended up buying the items from the customer for thousands of dollars.
