A recent home invasion and robbery of a precious metal’s deal/gold buyer in the Edmonton Area, got me thinking about safety not only for myself & other gold buyer’s but also their customers who sell gold, have it at home etc.
Some very simple things that I have come up with…
1. Don’t Disclose Your Home address On The internet anywhere, and if you have to then don’t advertise or allude to the fact you keep precious metals
there like gold bullion, jewelry, antiques etc. In this recent home invasion I mentioned, the victim advertised his home based precious metals business on the internet along with his home address.
2.Get a Safe, I know this is commonsense but a safe is a really great way to protect your valuables such as gold & silver, coins, and jewelry plus never mind robbery. A good fire rated safe provides protection against an even bigger threat, a house fire. For protection against robbery, the heavier the safe the better because, for one thing a 500-800LB safe will not be easy to carry off as a little fire-proof case box. You could even get fancy and hide the safe in a wall or encase it in concrete, and your chances of having that safe taken out of your home are almost Zero.
3. Be careful when selling your gold, a lot of gold buying places are in malls or even not so good areas.
It can be risky to take a lot of gold into a mall or a bad neighbourhood. Obviously don’t draw attention to the fact that you have it, is a good idea. Another good tip
is to maybe not go to these areas at. Use a mobile service that will meet you in a public place in a good area or use a reputable mail
in company and send your gold in without having to worry about taking it somewhere unsafe.
4. A tip for fellow gold buyers, and customers for that matter, make sure you aren’t followed home. It is not impossible that some crooks may get the ideal that if you own a gold buying shop or you’re a customer selling gold that you might keep lot’s of gold at home, too. Don’t stress about this one, but simply be aware of your surroundings. Keeping an eye out on your drive home will keep you and your family safe.
That’s it for now, just a few simple things I thought of, be sure to comment if you have anything to add.
